Rafting Trip with Lewis & Roca

This post is a little late, since I was waiting on pictures from other people. Not the best of quality, since no one wanted to bring amazing cameras on a river trip! But here are a few pics of the river trip Dan and I went on with Lewis & Roca while we were in Arizona.

Dan and I felt like pros, since we knew the inflatable kayaks are called "duckies". (It was probably the one skill we picked up from our rafting trip in May with my Transition boys!) I believe this shot was taken somewhere in between the water fight we engaged in, both with water guns and the old-fashion paddle method. The water was so cold!

These two in the fore-front were the other married couple on the trip. (Dan and I are in the back). During the most intense rapid, they capsized. While they were being rescued from under their ducky, Dan and I had to paddle hard to rescue their lost paddle. Dan jumped into the water to grab it, but the current was too strong and was sucking him around the bend. Nervous for him, I went after him in my ducky, but he shouted for me to paddle to the shore with the rest of our crew. If I didn't ditch Dan, we would never get the ducky back up stream where everyone else was pulling over. So I dug into the water and barely made it to the final curve of the shore. Dan had disappeared from my sight by now so I parked the ducky in the sand and ran up the hill to see if he'd made it to the other side. Tired and almost shoe-less, he made it, and with the rescued paddle in hand!
Dan and I laughed about how fortunate it was that we'd practiced "sprinting" in the duckies. Earlier, we raced a couple of our new friends in their duckies when we were in calm water. It's surprisingly exhausting stroking through the river so fast!
This handsome stud floated through the last part of this rapid in just his jacket. His pose was "all-nat-ur-al!"
These ruins are from the ancient Anasazi tribe. Archaeologists guess these were temples of some sort. The rooms were tiny and built against this rock wall. If the doors and walls were made to scale, they had to have been very short! Most likely under five feet (not to offend any of you five-feet-and-under folk.) It was fun to guess what their lives must have been like back then.
Clay pot shards. They were all over the grounds. I love the detail on them.
These pictographs were everywhere. It just makes you question and wonder what they knew, and what they were recording for the future...
We went on a couple hikes up these rock walls. This group of attorneys and summer associates were so much fun. We really liked everybody who went on the trip with us. Only two of the summer associates work with Dan in the Vegas firm.
Dan is a nut when it comes to hiking rocks. This doesn't look very high because the camera is zoomed in. But it was certainly high enough for me! Dan would have kept going if the guide hadn't insisted we all come down.
It was a really great experience rafting and camping for three days and two nights. We're sad not all the summer associates could stay together. They were a cool group to hang with.
