Happy 1st Birthday, Aaron!

Happy Birthday, Aaron!

Within a day or two of turning a year, Aaron decided it was time to test out his little legs. He would stand and then stumble 7-10 steps as fast as he could before collapsing into my arms (or slamming into the ground if I wasn’t fast enough!) This little boy is resilient! We didn’t celebrate his party until one week later, and by then, he was up to about 15 quick-paced steps, and was thrilled about it! So were proud Mommy and Daddy!

Aiyana had a lot of fun watching her brother walk. We have some incriminating video of her pushing him over a number of times while he did his bow-legged strut, which resembled something like a cowboy and a baby fawn standing for the first time.  Cutest things ever! But back to Aiya and pushing him over… she is so naughty like that sometimes! She thought (thinks!) it was so funny to knock him over, no matter how much we scolded her.  Aaron popped right back up every time,  eager to try again. He had the walking skill down within a couple weeks, his legs getting stronger and steadier every day.

I LOVE seeing him walk! Aiyana didn’t walk until she was 15 months, so by the time she decided to try it out, she was pretty much a pro who never fell down. There are definitely positives to delayed walking because she never hurt herself! Whereas Aaron falls over and bumps his head all the time! But I love his little toddler walk. Such a growing little boy now and not so much a baby!
At his party, he learned how to do somersaults. And when it came to digging into the cake, he took his sweet time, just staring at it and eventually poking a finger into it a couple of times. Aiyana (who, at a year old, didn’t waste any time grabbing fists of her cake and shoving it into her mouth) found it necessary to help him. It was cute watching her feed him.  “Here A-wan.” (She doesn’t prounce her “R’s”).

Aaron eventually picked up the pace, dipping his mouth to the frosting and then grabbing a few fistfuls afterwards. It was fun cheering him on!

Afterwards, we had a silly-string fight (which started in the house between Dan and me as somewhat of a real fight over something I can’t even remember…but it ended “silly,” at least!)

It has been so fun having this boy in our life this past year!
We love you, Aaron!
